PROCESSING
Cook Farm beef is sold by the pound as a whole or half beef. The price of a whole beef is $2.67 per pound of actual dressed weight beef. Dressed weight is the weight after the removal of the hide and other unusable parts. Dressed weight per whole animal will be approximately 550 pounds. The price for a half beef is $3.03 per pound of actual dressed weight. Our prices include delivery of your animal to a processor selected by you within a 60 mile radius and delivery to you of the packaged beef. Area processors are located in Whigham and Tifton, Georgia and in Madison, Florida. The processor will cut up, double wrap and freeze your beef under regulatory inspection. Depending upon your processing preferences, the processor’s charge will be $.50 to $.67 per pound of dressed weight. The take-home, packaged weight of your beef cannot be computed exactly, but will be approximately 73% of dressed weight or approximately 400 pounds for a whole beef and 200 pounds for a half beef.

FREEZER SPACE
A general rule of thumb is one cubic foot of freezer space for each 28 # of cut and wrapped meat. A 400 # whole beef will require approximately 14 cubic feet of freezer space (2’ x 2’ x 3.5’). A half beef will require approximately 7 cubic feet of freezer space (2’ x 2’ x 1.75’).

TIP
By way of comparison, grass-fed ground beef, when it can be found, sells in supermarkets for $5.99 to $7.99 per pound. When buying a Cook Farm whole or half grass-fed beef, you will receive not only ground beef but also steaks and roasts as well. When they can be found, steaks and roasts sell for $8.99 to $16.99 per pound in supermarkets.
